Some Important Things to Consider When Booking DIY Buckets for your Event
DIY flowers can be fun and incredibly rewarding. They are also a great way to keep the costs of some or all of your florals lower than if you were to hire a floral designer to consult, design, deliver and set up florals for your event. Please note that we do not offer, and our pricing listed above does not include design services or any consultation regarding:
-colour schemes
-number of buckets or stems required for your event (some tips about how to estimate this are offered below)
-types of arrangements needed
-the mechanics or ‘how to’ of floral design
We also do not offer any field tours and the fields are closed to the public.
Our DIY buckets are “growers choice” meaning that we will choose what looks best within your colour scheme the day of your event. You are welcome to provide a photo or two for inspiration (via email after we respond to your request) that will help us plan the right mix of flowers to create your desired look. Flower availability is subject to seasonality, weather and pest pressure. By booking us for your event flowers you are putting your trust in our skills and experience gained over 15+ years growing organic flowers to provide you with the most beautiful blooms for your day.
In order to plan out how many stems/buckets you may need, we suggest that you create some mock up arrangements ahead of time. You can choose flowers from your own garden, pick up some bouquets from the farmers’ market or grocery store and count out how many stems are needed to create the look you are going for. From there, you get an idea of how many buckets you may need for your event. A little practice will help you to gain confidence and also understand how much time is needed to put together your event florals. Keep in mind that vases/vessels with a thinner/tapered opening will require far less blooms to fill than a wider open vessel.
Flowers can be picked up one or two days in advance from the farm or on Saturday mornings at the Collingwood Farmers’ Market. Flowers should be stored in a cool place, away from any breezes and direct sunlight – cool garages or basements work well. We provide buckets with every order and you are welcome to return them to us for reuse if that is convenient for you.
